The traditional society

The museum’s first floor explains how the so-called self-sufficient traditional society worked.
This medieval-rooted society was structured around the farmhouse, the basic social and production unit, with an autarchic economic basis. The main productive tasks were agricultural, forestry and stock-raising activities.

During nineteenth century these still were the Montseny economic axes but in middle twentieth century farmhouses suffered a process of depopulation which ended up in 1980’s and meant the disappearance of most of the activities which have defined economically this traditional world.
